Recycle your old electronics - A trend has started among large retailers to offer gift cards or other store credits for customers to bring in their used and unwanted portable electronics. The stores then take these electronics and disposes of them properly while you get to earn a little more green for simply being green. Cost to you - $0. You get paid instead!
Use Low VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint - That wonderful smell of a newly painted house is not as wonderful as it seems. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the chemicals released by the paint can cause eye, nose, and throat irritation as well as other more serious neurological conditions. Not to worry though - many national home improvement chains are starting to carry paint with low VOC content. Cost to you - approximately $18 and up.
